The
Young Leaders Fund
gives
its members the opportunity
to learn
about and participate in responsible philanthropy,
civic leadership and community building.
The
Young Leader’s Fund
The
Young Leader’s Fund is a group of committed young
couples and individuals who want to get involved in
community work and have come together to pool their
financial resources, collective knowledge and energy to
impact charitable giving in this area.
At this time, the Young Leaders are focusing their
resources on children's needs.
Young
Leader’s Fund members are a dynamic group of
individuals with a wide range of backgrounds,
educations and experiences bound by a common interest
in charitable service and giving.
Members range in age from their 20’s to 40’s
but there are no age limits.
Young
Leader's Fund Opportunities
Leadership:
The
Lubbock Area Foundation established The Young Leaders
Fund in 2005 as a way to help create the city's next
generation of philanthropic and civic leadership.
Philanthropy:
The
Young
Leaders Fund members not only learn the ins
and outs of philanthropy through hands-on experience,
they also get a real education in their community,
its needs and the not-for-profit groups that are
attempting to meet those challenges.
Networking
& Social Activities:
In addition
to providing an avenue for
charitable giving of money and time, The Young
Leader’s Fund offers a unique social outlet for
young residents of this community.
Education:
In
addition to the knowledge they gain through
researching community needs, Members
also have the opportunity to attend regular education
events featuring community leaders and other speakers
that are knowledgeable about issues members are
interested in learning more about
Taking
the Lead . . . Meeting
Community Needs
By
pooling their diverse talents and resources, members of
the Young Leader’s Fund award grants to non-profit
organizations that they believe are effectively
addressing the needs of children. In 2005 the
Young Leaders Fund began working to create a permanent
endowment fund. This fund consists of charitable
gifts as well as growth provided from membership
dues. Proceeds from this fund are used to award
annual grants to organizations that serve the needs of
area children.
Members
research community needs and not-for-profit
organizations, make site visits and interview staff,
evaluate grant requests and finally make grant
recommendations. The first grant was
awarded in 2006 to the Guadalupe/Parkway Neighborhood
Center for much needed playground improvements.
In 2007, CASA of the South Plains received a grant to
aid in their child advocate recruitment efforts.
2008 grants were awarded to Foster A Life for foster
child wishes, Buckner Children & Family Services
for the Preparation for Adult Living Program and Cross
View Christian Camp for summer camp scholarships.
As
the endowment continues to grow, so will our ability to
target even more community needs and address them
through the grantmaking process.
Membership
The
Young Leader’s Fund is dedicated to harnessing the
energy, enthusiasm, and resources of young couples and
individuals who have a strong interest in this
community. Membership dues are $100 per year, all
of which goes toward growing the Young Leader’s Fund
endowment. For information on membership contact

Young
Leader's Endowment
The
Young Leader's Endowment consists of charitable gifts as well as growth provided from
membership dues. Proceeds from this fund are used
to award annual grants to organizations that serve the
needs of area children.
Their goal is to grow this
endowment to $500,000 in order to provide a higher
level of support for organizations that work with
children in the South Plains area. All donations
are welcome and we encourage you to learn more about
our annual fundraiser - A Night to Laugh Out Loud.

your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more,
do more

become more, you are a leader.”
