2008 Hero's Luncheon
honoring

Karin McCay & Abner Euresti

We are fortunate to have many among us who have provided inspirational leadership and given of themselves to better our community. In honor of these Lubbock heroes, the Lubbock Area Foundation hosts its Annual Hero's Luncheon to recognize their accomplishments.

Over the span of many years, we in Lubbock and the South Plains region have admired the tireless devotion that Karin McCay and Abner Euresti have brought to broadcast journalism.  They have earned a indisputable reputation for integrity and trustworthiness. We applaud their career accomplishments and their dedication to local charitable causes such as the Children's Miracle Network.  On April 1, 2008, the Foundation hosted its 10th Annual Hero’s Luncheon.  Friends and supporters gathered at the UMC McInturff Center to honor and acknowledge the significant contributions that Karin McCay and Abner Euresti have made to our community.

The Hero’s Luncheon has two distinct purposes:

  • To honor Karin & Abner for their accomplishments and acknowledge their initiative and leadership which have brought significant benefits to the Lubbock area; and

  • To establish a permanent endowment at the Lubbock Area Foundation for a charitable purpose designated by them.

In view of their outstanding  leadership, never-say-never spirit and longstanding commitment to community, the Lubbock Area Foundation believes Karin McCay and Abner Euresti exemplify the spirit of the Hero’s Award.  Karin and Abner have designated the Karin McKay & Abner Euresti Endowment for the benefit of the Children's Hospital at UMC.

Past Hero's Luncheon honorees include Congressman Larry Combest, sculptress Glenna Goodacre, former TTU Chancellor John Montford, United SupermarketsDelbert & Carolyn McDougalSenator Robert Duncan, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and Carolyn Lanier
